The Alphabet - Foundation of Literature
Materials: inks, pencils, watercolour paper
Technique: calligraphy, slotted book construction
Size: 28 x 21 x 17 cm
Description: The letters of the alphabet are the building blocks of language which underpin all works of literature.
The interlocking pages of this slotted book represent the interconnections, dependencies and linkages within our alphabet, language and literature.
Each letter of the alphabet (written in inks and pencils) is featured in one specific section on the outside of the pages, while the inside contains quotes about the importance and relevance of the alphabet in our culture.
The mound structure of this book symbolises the upwelling of creativity and the burgeoning of great writing, as each author pens his personal masterpieces from these twenty-six kernels of inspiration.
