Papermakers of Qld

Papermakers of Qld have staged some spectacular exhibitions over the past few years.

Some works feature natural fibr paper made by the artists, and other use commercial papers in creative ways.

Visit the POQ website to find out about our Papermakers group, and to see images of previous exhibitions and activities.

"Paper Bespoke" is the most recent POQ exhibition.

This exhibition was held at Cooroy Butter Factory from June to August in 2016.

Here are 3 of the 5 pieces that I had on display.

The theme subtitle of the Paper Bespoke exhibition was "Carnivale" so I made this overly-busy, brightly- coloured collage to represent the fun and frenetic activity of the fairground.

"Let You Inner Light Shine" is made from dyed teabags. These are embellished with words to inspire you to 'shine'. The light inside regularly changes colour to add extra interest.

These haiku poems extol the beauty of handmade paper, and the enjoyment of making it.

"Into Paper" was exhibited at 3 different galleries ...

It opened at Redcliffe Gallery in 2014.

In 2015 it travelled to Gympie Regional Gallery then to Gallery159 in Brisbane.

It was curated by Sandra Pearce, and she produced magnificent catalogues.

Here are my pieces ....

"The Zen of Life" is recycled teabags, coloured with fibre-reactive dyes, and folded into flowers.

"Berbagi" was our response to a papermaking trip to Bali in 2010.

The exhibition was held at the Sunshine Coast University Gallery in 2012.

I made several pieces for the exhibition ...

"Scattered Offerings" is a tribute to the many offerings placed in small Hindu shrines inside and outside buildings.

"Ladder of Life" features quotes about the necessary qualities required for a fulfilling life.

"Banyan Balance", with both English and Indonesian words written on handmade paper shaped like Banyan leaves, represents the duality of Balinese culture and religion.

"Food for Thought" pays homage to the food we ate during our trip.

These are some of the works made by others ....

Judy Barrass

Joanna Faber

"Not the Flat Surface" was displayed in 2009.

It was also held at the Sunshine Coast University Gallery.

Two of my works were on display ...
